This Grand Cayman airport code is “GCM.” The GCM airport works under the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA). It’s a statutory authority under the Ministry of District Administration, Tourism, and Transport. The place started operations in 1952, and it’s the main airport that connects the Cayman Islands with the rest of the world. It has a runway that’s 7,008 feet long by 150 feet wide.

Not only is GCM the international airport for the Cayman Islands, but it’s also the main base for Cayman Airways. The airport was named after Owen Roberts, who was a British Air Force Wing Commander.

GCM works with many airlines, including:

– Air Canada Rouge

– American Airlines

– British Airways

– Caribbean Airlines

– Cayman Airways/Cayman Airways Express

– Delta Airlines

– Southwest Airlines

– United Airlines

– WestJet

If you want to take a trip to the Cayman Islands, such as Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, you will need to go with Cayman Airways. Some of these airports only operate on a seasonal basis, so keep an eye out for that before going on your trip.

The CIAA website offers a flight tracker, so you can easily check out how your flight is doing at all times. You may also check the arrivals and departures with ease.

As a side note, the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) is home to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS). It serves private aircraft.

GCM’s departure lounge also features a snack bar called “The Runaway Bar.” It’s open between 5:00 AM and the last flight departure. You can buy desserts, hot/cold beverages, sandwiches, and more.

How Does Parking Work?

GCM airport works with long- and short-term parking facilities, and they’re controlled by automated systems. The Ground Transport Unit is responsible for monitoring and supporting each platform.

You must pay for parking through a machine, which only accepts CI dollars. Thanks to the Ground Transportation Unit, you can exchange U.S. dollar bills for CI ones with no problems.

At the time of writing, short-term parking costs CI$2.00 per hour. Long-term parking, on the other hand, costs CI$7.00 per day.
